5 Tips for Perfect Anodising

Anodising is an electrolytic process of oxidation of the metal surface. Basically, the surface of the corrosive material is coated with the non- corrosive material to prevent from rusting. These increases the durability of the metal and give it beautiful finishing.

  2. 5 Tips for Perfect Anodising

  3. http://indacocoats.com/ • Anodising is an electrolytic process of oxidation of the metal surface. Basically, the surface of the corrosive material is coated with the non- corrosive material to prevent from rusting. These increases the durability of the metal and give it beautiful finishing. • Anodizing is a complex chemical process, one tiny mistake can really ruin the job, so if you are planning to get your metal anodized, make sure you take care of all 5 tips, given below

  4. Take care of the marks.

  5. In Anodizing what we always get too see, metal sent for anodizing have scratches on it. Remember well, scratches are not removed or covered by anodizing, it will appear. Before sending the metal for anodising, make sure that you remove all the scratches, otherwise it becomes a hurdle in getting the desired finishing. In some cases, the impact of the marks can be removed by chemical etching process, but then, it too ruins the finishing.

  6. Packaging These is a very common mistake that everyone does. Make sure that you package the metals properly. Do not stick tape on the metal while packaging, tapes leaves marks on the metal behind, anodizer do not take effort to clean all the metal, because they cannot check each piece of metals. Package the metal in such a way that it does not get rubbed by any other metal or any hard material, for perfect anodizing it is very essential that the metal does not have any marks or scratches on it

  7. Welding If the meal is to be welded make sure that the metal is welded before it is anodized. The reason for that is, anodize is the oxide of the metal and it is highly resistive to electricity, it will be very difficult to weld, once the metal is anodized. Anyhow if you have to do welding after the anodizing, remove the anodize layer by the mechanical means or by caustic based chemical means like, oven cleaner etc.

  8. In case you are welding the metal after it is anodized, use 5356 welding rod for proper finishing. TIG welding is used mainly for aluminium, so make sure you do not use MIG Do not try to reshape the metalIf you have to form or mould the metal in any you have to do it before anodizing it. Do not try to bend the metal or exert tension on the metal after it is anodized. The anodize does cannot bear tensions, it just breaks. For example, if you are trying the anodized metal rod, the anodize will crack. These fractures become opening for corrosion

  9. Other important issuesIt is better to sent the colour sample with the metal, sent for anodizing or email them Remember well, not every metal can be anodised, it is just few metals like, aluminium, titanium and magnesium.Prevent from touching the uncoated metal, your finger print in many ways can ruin the finishing If the product has other metal attached to it, remove it before or let know the anodizer so he can mask It properly.
