  2. What is HIV • Virus that leads to Aids • HIV is a retrovirus which means it is a slow virus • HIV, when entered into the body, kills off the immune system and T-Cells

  3. Who has HIV • You can’t tell whether some one has HIV/AIDS • It could take more than 5 years until someone could find out that they have AIDS

  4. Symptoms • Rapid weight loss • Dry cough • Pneumonia • Red blotches on or under the skin or inside the mouth, nose, or eyelids • White spots un the mouth or in the throat

  5. How is HIV transmitted • HIV can be spread by blood to blood contact like: • Sharing needles & blood transfusions • It can also be spread by sexual contact. • It can not be spread by kissing, sharing towels, urine, toilet seats, or swimming pools

  6. Statistics • In the United states over 600,000 reported cases of HIV have been recorded since 1981 • Now about 900,000 people have been infected with HIV • More than 30.6 million were globally infected as of 1997

  7. Warren County • In Warren county over 45 cases of HIV were reported. • In 2009 8 people died from HIV.
