  3. The first Auschwitz • Auschwitz is the German word for a town in Poland called Oswiecim. • The first concentration camp in Auschwitz was actually former Polish army barracks. • This camp was called Auschwitz I

  4. Auschwitz I • Used mainly for Polish political prisoners • Locals were kicked out of their homes and relocated • Many SS guards and their families were given their homes

  5. Building 10 • Medical building • Experiments on prisoners • Mostly sterilization • Many murdered just so an autopsy could be conducted
