  4. Texans in the War • “Remember the Alamo” • 5,000 Texans serves in the U.S. forces • Many were Texas Rangers – “Texas Devils”

  5. Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo • February 2, 1848 • Mexican Cession – surrendered all land between Texas and Pacific Ocean • U.S. Paid Mexico $15 million

  6. California Gold Rush • Northern California – gold nuggets are discovered • The 49ers – thousands of people from the U.S. and all over the world rushed to California • Solidified Manifest Destiny
