Hemophilia… What’s That? • Hemophilia is spontaneous bleeding • Bleeding can occur from: • Stress • Mild or greater trauma (sports, etc.) • Before or after surgery • Symptoms: • Blood clotting improperly, if at all. • Easily recognizable in childhood • It was considered the “royal disease” because Queen Victoria had it and passed it through her family; the Russian royal family at the time also had it.

  3. What chromosome is the disorder located on? It is contracted/passed down through the X-chromosome.

  4. Mode of Inheritance It is passed through the X-chromosome. Men have it, and are affected by it (XY) Women are carriers (XX)

  5. Alleles? Every person has two alleles per gene. Dominant alleles are represented by “big” letters. RR, Rr Recessive genes are represented by “little” letters. rr
