European Institute of Innovation and Technology • New EU instrument for promoting innovation in Europe • Legally established 2008 as an independent agency within the EU • Governing board with 18 members • Funds ”Knowledge and Innovation Communities”, KICs • Official call and selection of 3 KICs during 2009 • Three proposals were selected in December 2009: • In the ICT field - EIT ICT Labs • In the Energy field - KIC Innoenergy • In the Climate field - Climate-KIC • KICs fully operational in October 2010

EIT ICT Labs - Strong European Partners Complete and complementary world-class innovation hotspots Berlin Eindhoven Helsinki Paris Stockholm Pôles de Compétitivité + Associate clusters in Budapest, London, Trento Systematic build-up of innovation ICTLabs outside the initial nodes • Active regional network of SME • Full national and regional support • Each Co-location features at least: • One strong research institute • One major university • One European-based multinational company

EIT - Orientation • Objectifs • Renforcer la compétitivité européenne, contribuer à la croissance économique durable en renforçant la capacité d'innovation des États membres et de la Communauté • Comment • Réunir les trois pôles du triangle de la connaissance : éducation, recherche et innovation • « Colocation centers » : Lieux physique de réunion des participants de chaque nœud. • Outils • Communautés de la Connaissance et de l’Innovation (CCI/KIC) • Rassemblent les 3 côtés du triangle de la connaissance • Critère principal de sélection est l’excellence européenne et mondiale • Durée de vie de 7 à 15 ans • 60 à 100 M€ de dépenses par an • Financement 25 % IET, 75 % externe
