  7. MERCY is when God doesn’t give us what we deserve GRACE is when God gives us what we don’t deserve God’s mercy is also an active thing

  8. Mercy is part of God’s nature • “Gracious is the Lord and righteous; our God is merciful” Psalm 116v5 • “Be merciful, just as your heavenly Father is merciful” Luke 6v36

  9. God’s mercy cannot be exhausted • “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning” Lamentations 3v22-23 • “His mercy endures forever” Psalm 136

  15. How religious Pharisees see the world: • God has had mercy on me: I am special • God has NOT had mercy on them: they are outside of his love • Poor people are poor because of moral failing: they deserve it • Sick people are sick because of sin: they deserve it
