  1. Laboratory Safety Use the lab only when directed by the teacher.

  2. Chemicals Only use chemicals when directed by the teacher. Make sure to read the labels carefully. Many containers will look the same. Never taste anything in the lab. You must assume that everything is contaminated or toxic.

  3. Accidents Place broken glass and waste chemicals in appropriate and labeled containers. Report all accidents, spills, and unsafe behavior to the teacher.

  4. Hair YES Pull your hair back in the lab if it is hanging in your lab equipment – especially in the chemicals or Bunsen burner!!! Hair may burn by fire and chemicals.

  5. NO WATER ALLOWED IN THE LAB AREA NO FOOD OR DRINK IN THIS ROOM

  6. Pet Peeve #1: No body products DO NOT SPRAY COLOGNE, DEODORANT, OR USE STRONG SMELLING LOTIONIN THIS ROOM. This is not your bathroom! We all have to share this room and some people have allergies!

  7. Pet Peeve #2: Make-up Absolutely NO makeup application in this room!!! This is NOT your bathroomand products can become contaminated!!!

  8. Absolutely no horseplay in the lab. That includes: Wrestling moves Football moves Basketball moves Dance or cheer moves Demonstrating what someone else has done Tag Putting feet or legs on counters Picking up another student Throwing anything (even if asked to throw it by another student)

  9. No live animals will be harmed in the lab. (We do not use animals in this class.)

  10. Equipment Locate this equipment in the room. The drench shower is used for large amounts of chemicals, which we do not use in this class. Depending on the injury: Band aid/cold water Trip to nurse I call 911 I do not have a first aid kit.

  11. Open-toed shoes during labs. … …expose your feet to burns from hot materials and chemicals.

  12. Consequences Failure to follow all the previous safety rules may result in one or more of the following (depending on severity and number of offenses): • Removal from lab and loss of points for the day • Removal from lab for remainder of the unit • Removal from lab for remainder of quarter • Removal from science class
