  1. Basic Ideas to Have Before Engaging In Basement Development and Renovation

  2. We know basements, the portion of a building below the first floor and may be partially or entirely underground. If you have plans to do a Basement Development and Renovation whether it’s a new basement home theater room, home gym or a home office, we can help you make your finished basement ideas come to life. There are a few things you have to keep in mind. Here:

  3. First thing before engaging in Basement Development and Renovation is to check with your local municipality to see if you'll be required to get any permits. This is particularly important if you're planning to go as far as plumbing and electrical work, sort of activities which may have to be inspected by appropriate bodies.

  4. Checking for moisture areas in the walls and floors of the basement before beginning the planning process should be your obvious starting point. Your checkpoints should be pools of water or drips coming through the under-grade walls. Check outside to make sure the ground is graded away from your foundation. Also, look for cracks in your foundation walls and repair that damage if necessary. After taking care of the obvious moisture issues with the basement, your basement can still become a damp place. You'll also want to add a vapor barrier to both the walls and floors before framing and finishing off the wall and floor surfaces.

  5. In spite of all endeavors, even with a vapor obstruction, dampness can at present be a problem, so the next option you'll be looking at is to create a slight offset from the outside wall by adding thin slabs of wood or metal called furring strips. These strips can also be used to help level out a wall that may be irregular to create a flat surface for adding framing. They also contribute in creating an amount of warmth within the basement as warmth is a very prominent trait of a basement. Insulation can also be employed as this will not only help control the temperature inside your basement, it may also add another layer of moisture control, as well as help dampen sound from the outside. When making a choice for the basement ceiling, a drop and a suspended ceiling offer a way to both conceal and provide access to electrical and plumbing lines via the removable tiles. These ceilings will reduce the amount of space available on the overhead, so keep that in mind when planning.

  6. As for lightening, you will want to go with recessed lighting because they won't take up valuable overhead space that a light fixture would. It is also easy to fit with a drop ceiling. Take note that the control room only needs very light or no finishing at all. These spaces have specific code requirements for spacing and framing, plus you'll require access for inspection and repairs. So those are just about all you need to know if you have to delve into Basement Development and Renovation.
