  1. HRS-IF partAgenda IF Design and Performances Modifications between QM and FM Planning Philippe Caïs HRS / HIFI bilateral meetingToulouse14 September 2004 Bilateral Meeting

  2. IF ‘simplified’ schematic • Functional diagram • Ampli : G = 59±7.5dB • 3 mixers • Equivalent Frequency plan • LO : 175 steps Bilateral Meeting

  3. IF Performances • Some performances (worries) • Other concerns • Emergency mode  cable loss to high compared to internal loss balance. >2 dB extra loss and extra cable slope… • Will come along test with correlator… coming soon Bilateral Meeting

  4. IF AIV program Bilateral Meeting

  5. IRM rejection Bilateral Meeting

  6. QM Rejection Bilateral Meeting

  7. Output spurious Bilateral Meeting

  8. Spurious test Bilateral Meeting

  9. Linearity • Linearity >1% • Soft correction? Bilateral Meeting

  10. Linearity test Bilateral Meeting

  11. Dynamic range • 4GHz BW cut into small 250MHz Bw independently adjusted in output power (0.5dB step). • IF intrinsic smooth ripple over 4GHz is translated into attenuator settings variations for each sub-band. • That reduces the window of ‘fine tuning’ for efficiency optimisation and I call that ‘IF internal dynamic range’. • Budget seems to fit (see slide) Bilateral Meeting

  12. Dynamic range test Bilateral Meeting

  13. Ripple budget 1/3 • Output BW to correlator  250MHz • Element ripples are ± cumulative • QM ripple over 250MHz is about 3dB. Bilateral Meeting

  14. Ripple 2/3 • QM results (Room temp.) Bilateral Meeting

  15. Ripple Budget 3/3 • Ripple FPU (from Nick data) • Overall ripple : FPU+ Cable + Internal  7.5dB w.c. Bilateral Meeting

  16. Change QM  FM • Frequency prescaler Hybrid (see slide) • Due to VCO output power  QM NC • New VCO spec for FM and new hybrid design (coupling decreased, power supply filtering resistor) • Correlator speed: new filter design (see slide) • CPPA procurement: RLC footprint changed  new layout for IRM • LO pcb : slight changes for DRC compliance (precap) • Mechanical weight reduction  work in progress • Varnish (IRM and 3C) Bilateral Meeting

  17. Coupler 1/5 5Ohms Instead of 10Ohms The right angles have been replaced by rounded angles to decrease risk of failure of 10mils alumina substrate.. 11dB coupler (spacing between the two 50Ohms lines : 60µm) instead of 12.5dB coupler (spacing : 90µm) Bilateral Meeting

  18. Coupler 2/5 Bilateral Meeting

  19. Coupler 3/5 Bilateral Meeting

  20. Coupler 4/5 Bilateral Meeting

  21. Coupler 5/5 Bilateral Meeting

  22. BW reduction • Due to GaAs freq. Limitation (TBC)  IRM output filter to be change/tuned • New LC values to be sorted for new filter shape/same constr. • Some parts may be re-ordered thru CCPA? • Slight gain variation compensated by atten. pads. Bilateral Meeting

  23. CPPA • Capacitor ATC120 proc. pending  needed for hybrid manufacture. Planning driver. Commercial lot available at MEUSONIC (the one used for QM hybrid manufacture) • VCO procurement  delivery date TBC Bilateral Meeting

  24. FM improvements • FM performances improvement • Power consumption  no change expected • Mass  a few % lower expected • Rejection ? Worries about new CPPA parts (footprint increase, resonnant freq. decrease) • Output spurious  Major change • need to add filter in both LOs but changes to mech. design. • new substrates to be realised (pb of schedule) • Linearity  15dB margin for noise is sufficient/power consump. • Dynamic range Bilateral Meeting

  25. Planning • Miteq • Delivery FM#1  end May 04 • Delivery FM#2  end May 04 • LO • Hybrid lot delivery  end April 04 • LO manufacture  mid June 04 • IRM • Manufacture  mid May 04 • Alignement & tuning  Mid July 04 polar H • Alignement & tuning  Mid Sept 04 polar V • IF delivery to CESR FM polar H  mid Sept 2004 • IF delivery to CESR FM polar V  mid-Nov 2004 Bilateral Meeting
