Czech Presidency to the EU Council • Taking place from 1 January till 30 June 2009 • Part of the Trio of the French, Czech and Swedish Presidencies • Main motto of the Czech Presidency (CZ PRES): „Europe without Barriers“ • Chief priority areas: • Competitive Europe • Energy and climate changes • Europe open and secure

  3. Main priorities of CZ PRES in Transport • Optimization of internal market’s operation in transport area • Elimination of administrative barriers to business in the transport sector • Competitiveness of EU transport system • Road safety

  4. Optimization of internal market’s operation in transport area • Implementation of measures contained in the Green Transport Package • Amendment of the Eurovignette Directive (1999/62) • Discussing Intelligent Transport Systems Action Plan

  5. Optimization of internal market’s operation in transport area • Revision of legal framework of the Single European Sky programme to speed up the process • SESAR - eendorsement of the ATM Master Plan • Discussion on further steps to evaluate and develop the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T)

  6. Elimination of administrative barriers to business in the transport sector • Removing more existing barriers to doing business in international road freight and bus transport - final adoption of so-called Road Package • Amendment of Directive 2002/15 on working time in road transport -exclusion of self-employed drivers from the scope of this directive

  7. Competitiveness of EU transport system • Developing Galileo Programme • New Commission legislative initiative for creation of corridors for freight rail transport • Deepening relations with third countries in the air transport sector – especially EU-U.S.AirTransport Agreement

  8. Road safety • Discussion about the future orientation of the EU policy in the field of road traffic safety • Work towards European Road Traffic Safety Action Plan for 2011-2020 • Proposal forDirective on cross-border enforcement in the field of road safety – follow upthe result of French Presidency

Preparing CZ PRES at the Ministry • Observer participation in Informal Councils (SI PRES – Brdo, FR PRES – La Rochelle) • Hiring temporary staff, aligning logistics, setting PR and communication systems... • Informal Council of Ministers taking place on 29 April 2009 in the town of Litoměřice in Northern Bohemia • Attaché trip in preparation for June 2009 to the picturesque scenery of the Bohemian Paradise (Český ráj)
