  5. Important documents • Passport • I-94 • I-20 • VISA – F-1 & M-1 Students • * F-1 ~ College Credit/Degree-Seeking or English Language Studies • * M-1 ~ Vocational Certificate Programs

  6. Passport • Your passport is your government’s proof of citizenship. • You must keep this valid at all times. Immigration specifically says 6 months into the future. • You need to contact your own embassy or consulate for renewal--we can provide information on how to contact them. • Keep it safe! If lost or stolen, report it to the police and to your embassy immediately. • When you extend your passport, provide a copy to your International Student Adviser right away.

  7. I-94 • Form I-94 gives your immigration status. All electronic now. • When admission is granted by an immigration inspector at Port of Entry: Form I-94 is stamped and “D/S” (“duration of status”) notation is added • “Duration of Status” means that you can remain in the U.S. as long as you continue your program of study as noted on Form I-20, provided you maintain full time academic status and immigration status.

  8. I-94 • Has an 11-digit admission number • SEVIS ID number is recorded on back • Form I-94 is collected upon departure from the US • New number issued on re-entry • I-94 Online

  9. I-20 • Your responsibility to keep your Form I-20 current • Retain all Forms I-20 ever issued to you forever!

  10. Maintaining Status • Maintain full-time enrollment in Fall and Spring semesters • Maintain satisfactory academic progress/ minimum 2.0 GPA • Maintain a valid SEVIS Form I-20 • Maintain a valid passport – note the 6 month rule • No unauthorized employment • You provide proof of health insurance • File timely applications for extension of program, changes in academic level, graduation, or for post-completion Practical Training • Report address changes or new phone number within 10 days

Full time enrollment • Student must enroll and complete 12 credit hours in the Fall and Spring terms • 9 credit hours must be in-person • Only 1 online class per 9 hours is permitted • Classes can only be on the Daytona or ATC campuses • If unable to maintain full-time enrollment, see your International Student Adviser immediately. • Do not drop below full-time unless an International Adviser has authorized it in SEVIS.

  12. Violation of status • A violation of status will result in a termination of your F-1 status • If you are in violation of status you will have to leave the country immediately

  13. Health Insurance • Effective the Fall 2016 semester, Daytona State College will no longer be providing student health insurance to international students. It will be the student’s responsibility to acquire health insurance and provide proof to the International Student Advisor prior to class registration each term (including students on OPT). The coverage must be for a full academic year. Health insurance is not an option – it is a requirement. Students who do not show proof of heath insurance will not be permitted to register for classes or continue their enrollment. • Although the College does not recommend any specific insurance company below is a list of recourses to help you find insurance coverage: • Insurance for College Student, LLC - http://www.ifcs.us/ • Insurance for Student, Inc. – http://www.insuranceforstudents.com • Florida Health Care - http://www.fhcp.com/ • Reams Employee Benefits - https://www.reamesebs.com/ • International Student Insurance - http://www.internationalstudentinsurance.com/

  14. Travel • A travel signature given by an International Student Adviser on Form I-20 is valid for one year. For those on OPT, travel signatures are only valid for six months. • Travel Signature requests must be made at least 2 weeks in advance of travel • Undergraduate Students bring: • Enrollment Verification • Passport • I-94 card (front and back) • Form I-20 (must be the original and most recent version)
