  2. Why use CHAMPS? • CHAMPS is a way that helps students understand what is expected of them in class. • Students can be more successful academically with CHAMPS.

  3. CHAMPS • C = Conversation • H = Help • A = Activity • M = Movement • P = Participation • S = Success!

  4. CONVERSATION • How much talking is allowed? • 0 = no talking/no sound • 1 = partner voice (whisper) • 2 = team voice • 3 = presentation voice • 4 = outdoor voice

  5. HELP • How do I get help during the activity? • Raise your hand • Start a new problem until I can help you

  6. ACTIVITY • What activity or assignment will I be completing? • Reading groups • Teacher-directed instruction • Quiz or Test • Independent work • Silent Reading

  7. MOVEMENT • Can I get out of my seat? • Only with my permission for… • Water • Pencil Sharpening • Restroom

  8. PARTICIPATION • What behavior shows that I am participating responsibly? • Reading groups – one person reads at a time, listen when someone else is reading • Teacher-directed instruction – track the speaker, listen, take notes, answer questions, share

  9. PARTICIPATION • What behavior shows that I am participating responsibly? • Quiz or Test –no talking, working on your own • Independent work – working on activity, quietly get help from a teammate • Silent Reading –no talking, reading silently
