  1. Leviticus 5:14to 6:7 5:14The LORD said to Moses: 15"When a person commits a violation and sins unintentionally in regard to any of the LORD's holy things, he is to bring to the LORD as a penalty a ram from the flock, one without defect and of the proper value in silver, according to the sanctuary shekel. It is a guilt offering.

  2. 16He must make restitution for what he has failed to do in regard to the holy things, add a fifth of the value to that and give it all to the priest, who will make atonement for him with the ram as a guilt offering, and he will be forgiven. 17"If a person sins and does what is forbidden in any of the LORD's commands, even though he does not know it, he is guilty and will be held responsible.

  3. 18He is to bring to the priest as a guilt offering a ram from the flock, one without defect and of the proper value. In this way the priest will make atonement for him for the wrong he has committed unintentionally, and he will be forgiven. 19It is a guilt offering; he has been guilty of wrongdoing against the LORD.”

  4. 6:1The LORD said to Moses: 2"If anyone sins and is unfaithful to the LORD by deceiving his neighbor about something entrusted to him or left in his care or stolen, or if he cheats him, 3or if he finds lost property and lies about it, or if he swears falsely, or if he commits any such sin that people may do - 4when he thus sins and becomes guilty, he must return what he has stolen or taken by extortion, or what was entrusted to him, or the lost property he found,

  5. 5or whatever it was he swore falsely about. He must make restitution in full, add a fifth of the value to it and give it all to the owner on the day he presents his guilt offering. 6And as a penalty he must bring to the priest, that is, to the LORD, his guilt offering, a ram from the flock, one without defect and of the proper value. 7In this way the priest will make atonement for him before the LORD, and he will be forgiven for any of these things he did that made him guilty.” – Leviticus 5:14 to 6:7

  15. Conscience “When outsiders who have never heard of God's law follow it more or less by instinct, they confirm its truth by their obedience. They show that God's law is not something alien, imposed on us from without, but woven into the very fabric of our creation. There is something deep within them, their conscience, that echoes God's yes and no, right and wrong. Their response to God's yes and no will become public knowledge on the day God makes his final decision about every man and woman. The Message from God that I proclaim through Jesus Christ takes into account all these differences.” – Romans 2:14-16

  16. Conscience • 2. Conviction by the Holy Spirit “When outsiders who have never heard of God's law follow it more or less by instinct, they confirm its truth by their obedience. They show that God's law is not something alien, imposed on us from without, but woven into the very fabric of our creation. There is something deep within them, their conscience, that echoes God's yes and no, right and wrong. Their response to God's yes and no will become public knowledge on the day God makes his final decision about every man and woman. The Message from God that I proclaim through Jesus Christ takes into account all these differences.” - Romans 2:14-16 “When He (the Holy Spirit) comes, He will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment. … But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.” - John 16:8, 13

  17. Conscience is Seared – we Ignore the guilt

  18. Conscience is Seared – we Ignore the guilt Let us beware, and ask the Holy Spirit to search our hearts and to search our lives, lest we harden our conscience, and sin against the Lord without knowing.

  19. Conscience is Seared – we Ignore the guilt Conscience is Stricken – we are Inundated by the guilt

  20. Conscience is Seared – we Ignore the guilt Conscience is Stricken – we are Inundated by the guilt Conscience is (Holy) Spirit’s tool – we are Invited to go to God with our guilt

  21. Conscience is (Holy) Spirit’s tool – we are Invited to go to God with our guilt Repentance & Restitution è Restoration Repentance = genuine sorrow towards God and the one(s) we have wronged Restitution = making things right (as much as we can), through compensation, or reparative actions

  22. Leviticus 6:4-5 4when he thus sins and becomes guilty, he must return what he has stolen or taken by extortion, or what was entrusted to him, or the lost property he found, 5or whatever it was he swore falsely about. He must make restitution in full, add a fifthof the value to it and give it all to the owner on the day he presents his guilt offering.

  23. Dear Sir, For 22 years I have carried your picture in my wallet. I was only 18 years old that day when we faced one another on that trail in Chu Lai, Vietnam. Why you didn’t take my life I’ll never know. You stared at me for so long, armed with your AK-47, and yet you did not fire. Forgive me for taking your life. I was reacting just the way I was trained, to kill VC. …

  24. So many times over the years I have stared at the picture of you and your daughter. Each time my heart and guts would burn with the pain of guilt. I have two daughters myself now. I perceive you as a brave soldier defending his homeland. …

  25. Above all else, I can now respect the importance that life held for you. I suppose that is why I write this letter to you. It is time for me to continue the life process and release my pain and guilt. Forgive me, Sir

  27. Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is an informal society of more than two million recovered and recovering alcoholics in the United States, Canada, and other countries. AA teaches that an alcoholic, in order to recover, should abstain completely from alcohol on a daily basis; and then the society in turn offers a community of recovering people who help each other and work the twelve steps together.

  28. The Twelve Steps as defined by Alcoholics Anonymous: • We admitted we were powerless over alcohol —that our lives had become unmanageable. • Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. • Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him. • Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. • Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs. • Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character. • 7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

  29. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all. • Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. • Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it. • Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out. • 12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
