  1. The United States Flag • It stands for the people, the land, and the freedom of the United States. • The stars are for the states. • The stripes are for the first 13 states (colonies).

  2. The Liberty Bell • It is a symbol of freedom. • It is in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. • The last time it rung was for George Washington’s birthday. • The crack is so big that the bell can’t ring anymore.

  3. The Statue of Liberty • It is in New York Harbor. • The torch lights the way for freedom. • The crown has 7 points which stand for the light of freedom shining on 7 continents. • The date of the Declaration of Independence is written on the tablet she is holding.

  4. The Bald Eagle • The bald eagle was chosen as the national bird of the United States. • It is not really bald. It has white feathers on its head and tail.

  5. Uncle Sam • Uncle Sam stands for the government and spirit of the United States. • Uncle Sam is dressed in red, white, and blue (the colors of the U.S. flag).

  6. The Lincoln Memorial • The Lincoln Memorial honors Abraham Lincoln. • He was the 16th president of the United States. • Abraham Lincoln is also on the penny.

  7. The White House • This is where the president of the United States lives. • Barack Obama lives here now. • George Washington was the only president who did not live here.

  8. Mount Rushmore • It is a mountain that has the faces of 4 presidents carved into it. • The faces are: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt. • It stands for the country’s birth, growth, and ideals.
