New Structures in Health • Clinical Commissioning Groups – GP-led, responsible for 80% of NHS spend • ‘Top tier’ local authority responsibility for public health, supported by • Public Health England • National Commissioning Board – Local Area Teams responsible for commissioning primary care services, screening, specialist services, offender health

  4. What are the big challenges for the Health Service? • Support to people who have long term conditions • Aging population • Increasing diversity • Moving focus from hospital to community • Increasing specialisation where appropriate • Improvements in experience • Value for money • Sustainability Agenda • Impact of Climate Change on health e.g. water, changing nature of communicable disease • Transport and car parking!

  5. Current Practice • Representation on statutory partnerships e.g. CDRPs • Growing links between emerging CCGs and Districts • Working links through Public Health to district officers inc. Health Protection Agency to EHOs • Direct commissioning of LAs in West Kent • Local engagement in specific programmes • West Kent Health Policy Board
