  2. Types of Games These are the main genres of Games: • Action • Shooter • Adventure • Action Adventure • Role Play • Simulation • Strategy • Vehicle Simulation

  3. Action Games Action games involve players to: use quick reflexes, accuracy, and timing to overcome obstacles. It is possibly the most basic of gaming genres, and certainly one of the largest. Action games tend to use combat the most. There are many types of action games like fighting games and fist person shooters.

  4. Shooter Games A shooter game focuses mainly on combat involving bullet weapons, like guns and missiles. They can be either first-person or third-person shooters, depending on the camera perspective. Some first-person shooters use light gun technology.

  5. Adventure Games Adventure games were some of the earliest games created. Unlike adventure films, they are a type of game play without reflex challenges or action. They normally require the player to solve various puzzles by interacting with people or the environment, and can be set in fictional worlds.

  6. Action Adventure Games Action-adventure games combine long-term obstacles (that are done using a tool or item as leverage), as well as smaller obstacles that require parts of action games to overcome. Action-adventure games tend to focus on exploring and usually involve item gathering, simple puzzle solving, and combat.

  7. Role Play Games In most role playing games, the player is in the role of one or more "adventurers" who specialise in specific skill sets (like melee combat or casting magic spells) while going through a storyline. They are usually populated with monsters, that allows access to more important game locations, such as towns, dungeons, and castles.

  8. Simulation Simulation video games are generally designed to closely simulate aspects of a real or fictional world. In city-building games the player acts like a leader by controlling structures for food, shelter, health, spiritual care, economic growth, etc.

  9. Strategy Games • Strategy video games focus on game play requiring careful and skilful thinking and planning to succeed. • In real time strategy games, you can often select multiple characters at once to perform different tasks, rather than only selecting one character at a time.

  10. Vehicle Simulation Games Vehicle simulation games are a genre of video games that allow the player to realistically use different kinds of vehicles. Racing games usually involve the player in the driver's seat of a high-performance vehicle to race against other drivers, (and achieve high scores).

  11. Games Advertisement & Audience • Games are advertised from many sources such as television, the internet, magazines/books, leaflets, etc. • They are targeted at people of all ages as there are a variety of styles of games and different age recommendations.
