  1. Text book recommendation for Circuit Analysis I By

  2. Introduction • Two introductory text books will be evaluated. • Electric Circuits, seventh edition by James Nilsson and Susan Riedel • The Analysis and Design of Linear Circuits, third edition by Roland Thomas and Albert Rosa • I will recommend one book in the end based on criteria.

  3. Criteria • Readability • Visuals • Theory Explanation and supportive examples • Organization of chapters

  4. Readability • Students need to understand logic behind concept not the sentence structure. • Electric Circuits, seventh edition has easily readable sentences. • Sentences in The Analysis and Design of Linear Circuits, third edition are somewhat difficult.

  5. Visuals • Visuals distinguish important properties from regular text. • They also facilitates finding important equations. • Electric Circuit, seventh edition has big and detailed figure. It also distinguish important formula by putting it in yellow background.

  6. Theory explanation and supportive examples • The books are useless unless the theories explanation make sense. • Electric Circuits, seventh edition has short explanation which covers all important detail. • The Analysis and Design of Linear Circuits, third edition had long detailed explanation, but it is difficult to follow.

  7. Organization of chapters • Better organized chapters facilitate finding topics. • Electric Circuits, seventh edition has better titles and short chapters which results in better organized chapters.

  8. Conclusion and recommendation • Electric Circuits, seventh edition is superior to The Analysis and Design of Linear Circuits, third edition in all aspects. • Electric Circuits, seventh edition has easily readable text, better visuals, short but thorough theories, and better organized chapters. • I recommend using Electric Circuits, seventh edition for the Circuit Analysis I class.
