  2. What is the DVD? • One way to tell a health story • Story from 4 to early adolescence • Follows one character (‘Link’): their health journey over time and their questions • AIM: provides opportunities for conversations to help promote understanding

  3. Why create a DVD? • Feedback from young people • Tell us more than once • Don’t want to feel like we are doing homework • We want information in different forms especially visual and multi media

  4. Why create a DVD? • Flexible way to tell a story • Has interactive elements and worksheets and can be used together with other materials • Can talk about issues from a third party perspective. • Not just steps

  5. Why create a DVD? • Information in a context • Lives exist apart from hospital • Focuses on keeping well and health rather than illness or dying

  6. Section One(4-7) • LINK • Message: Keeping well and healthy • Going to Dr’s is about monitoring health • Height, weight, blood tests tells us how well body is doing • Role of eating well, exercising and having fun • You can help your body stay healthy

  7. Section Two(7-11) • LINK and his friend PINK • Look together to see what goes on in the body and how different parts have different functions • Linked back to what the Dr checks in clinic and health and medicine messages • Looking, hearing, thinking, etc.

  8. Section Three(11-14) • LINK and PINK at the shopping mall • Opportunity to explore stories of young people in the mall • Visit different shops to learn about the HIV Virus, resistance, staying safe • Explore who they can talk to • What it is like to live with HIV

  9. Using the DVD • Kept in clinic • Used by health professionals clinic/home • Opportunity for team to understand level of explanation and words and analogies used • Support pack
