  2. How is Light of Life funded? • Individual donors • Businesses • organizations in southwestern Pennsylvania. • Grants, trust funds, government grants and user fees.

  3. Why is Light of Life so vital to the Greater Pittsburgh community? • Light of Life helps improve the quality of life for the next generation.

  4. What are Light of Life’s long term goals? • Goals include expanding facilities; • To explore and develop new ways to help people achieve lifelong learning, personal and spiritual growth; • Improve the quality of life for future generations.

  5. Who are Light of Life’s partners, and how can I become a partner? • These include corporations, small businesses, individuals, churches and a variety of community groups. • In addition to financial donations, partners contribute by donating gifts in-kind • Volunteering in numerous capacities, including consulting and other professional services.

Poverty and Homelessness in Pittsburgh • According to Allegheny County Department of Human Services’ Point in Time survey, results indicated the number of homeless persons in the County receiving services in January 2009 was 2,242. • Of that figure, 631 were children. With the 2010 Census data trickling in, we’ve learned that the poverty level in our nation rose to a staggering 14.3% in 2009, the highest level since 1959! • Even closer to home, recent surveys show that approximately 1 in 5 households in the Pittsburgh area live in poverty. On an annual basis, Light of Life serves close to 1,000 different individuals, generally breaking down as follows: 700+ men, women and children coming for meals (including emergency

COAT DRIVE • We invite you to be partners with us for a very special cause: • To help our neighbors in need stay warm this winter. • Many Pittsburghers – from tiny tots to the elderly – cannot afford to buy a coat or jacket. The homeless are especially at risk for getting frostbite or even freezing to death. • With your help, LIGHT of LIFE Rescue Mission provides free warm outerwear for the needy at their annual Coat Giveaway.

  11. Meal Preparation and Kitchen Cleaning Light of Life’s meal ministry program serves an average of 275 meals a day to people in need from the Greater Pittsburgh area in addition to recovery program residents. This ministry operates efficiently due to the hard work and diligence of Light of Life’s staff and the support from volunteers like you!
