Internet Industry Association set up in Singapore By Gregory Teo on Apr 4, 2005 3:37PM Internet use both for e-commerce and non- commercial purposes will get a boost in Singapore with the official launch of the Internet Industry Association of Singapore (IIAS). Initiated in September of last year, the association wants to make the for internet both safe for children and commercially viable for businesses. Founding members include eBay Singapore, Yahoo Southeast Asia, Macromedia South Asia, the Network for Electronic Transfer Singapore (NETs), Genovate and travel site ZUJI. Chairman J Anton Ravindran, who is the group CEO of Genovate, said the association hopes to provide assistance to those within the industry to address cyber security issues, offensive online content and frauds. Its activities are focused around two special interset groups. The Security and Anti-piracy interest group which aims to build confidence in the Internet for transactions as well as non-commercial purposes. The Real time Enterprise Interest Group which encourages companies in Singapore to leverage Internet technologies for business development within the region. It will be working with the Media Authority of Singapore (MDA) to address undesirable content on the Internet while a portal is being set up by the association to offer information on cyberspace privacy and security.
