  2. Choose a FIFA World Cup Competition to research and communicate when and where the competition was held. Communicate this in your introduction. I chose to do a power point about the Fifa world cup 2006. The match was held from June 9 till July 9 in Germany. There were 32 teams and twelve hosting cities. The teams that played are: Germany Netherlands Ukraine Portugal France Italy England Serbia and Montenegro Croatia Sweden Poland Switzerland Spain Czech Republic Argentina Brazil Ecuador Paraguay Australia Togo Ghana Cote d’Ivoire Angola Tunisia Japan Iran Saudi Arabia USA Mexico Costa Rica Trinidad and Tobago.

  3. Who were the finalists, who won, include the score. • Italy won the finals against France 5–3 in a penalty shootout in the final. After extra time they had finished in a 1–1 draw. Germany defeated Portugal 3–1 to finish third. Italy won the world cup. The winning goal was shot by Fabio Grosso a player from the Italian team.

  4. Using the Internet research the actual game itself and answer the following questions. A - What was the scoring sequence and who scored? • The-scoring sequence was 1-1 during the whole match. It was a draw. They had extra time but the scores were the same. Moving on to the penalties, the scores were 5-3 (5=Italy) (3=France).

  5. B - Choose 1 of the goals and describe using Football terminology the sequence of play leading up to the goal. • Fabio Grosso shot the ball under the 90º angle of the ball post and got the winning score. Here is a link of a video that shows Fabio Grosso shooting the goal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prfRx8gg7Oc&feature=related

  6. C – What could the defense have done to more effectively try and stop the goal being scored? • The defense could have stopped the goal being scored by jumping and hitting the ball with their head or chest. The German team had no defenders to defend the goal so it will be easy for the other attacking team to shoot the goal and score.

  7. D – Using the same scoring sequence what individual skills have been used by the attacking team? • The-attacking team used very skillful and accurate passing to bring the ball to the other teams goal. They drew defenders away from key players and then when they were free passing the ball into them and they scoring goals.

  8. E – Was there any movement ‘off the ball’ by other attackers to draw defenders away from the goal scorer? If yes what happened and what was the effect of this? • Yes, there was one example of this is where an attacker made a run into free space and brought 2 defenders with him. This left the attacker who has the ball free to take his chance on goal and scored.
