The USAID/EQUIP3 funded PAJE-Nièta will accompany 12,000 Malian youth (ages 14-25) towards employment and entrepreneur-ship in the regions of Kayes, Koulikoro, Sikasso and Timbuktu (2010 – 2015). • Increased access to relevant basic education/work readiness instruction • Increased access to relevant skills training • Increased entrepreneurship opportunities • Increased civic engagement Introduction to USAID/PAJE-Nièta

  3. Mobile Learning Overview • Work Readiness/ French Modules: • Digital textbooks • Interactive Audio Instruction • Educational Audio Programming • Basic Education Skill Builder Modules: • Alphabetic sequences • Numerical sequences • Phonetic sequences • Math drills • Math quizzes

Introduction to USAID/PHARE Key Objective: Instruction to improve literacy and numeracy • Research/ policy reform • Teacher training/supervision • Innovative classroom materials, including new technologies • Student evaluation Key Objective: Quality instruction for the hard-to-reach • Improved instruction in medersas • Development of one-classroom schools • Support to children with special needs • Development of public-private partnerships

USAID/PHARE’s Smartphone Pilot Key Objective: Improve teacher quality of instruction by providing access to lesson plans by smartphone • Student-centered lessons in reading (and science) posted on web • 19 teachers and their directors trained to download lessons and feedback forms on GPRS-enabled phones (Nokia E71) • Feedback submitted by SMS • 15 teachers completed all lessons • 16 school directors participated • Good enthusiasm and pedagogical success «What I understand now, I didn’t before.
