  2. Sunday 3/23 Do Now • Read the following and explain how you would respond in 3-4 sentences. • You own a vegetable cart and sell vegetables on daily basis. One day a policewomen comes and confiscates your cart and your vegetables. You try to pay her a fee (a days worth of work) to get it back, but she does not accept it. Rather, the policewomen spits in your face. You go to the provincial headquarters (a government building) to complain, but you are refused.

  4. Sunday 2/23 • Tunisia Continued: • 2010 protests broke out against poverty, unemployment and political repression. • December 17, 2010 – Mohammed Bouazizi starts revolution.

Wednesday 3/26 - Revolutions • Libya • Muammar Gaddafi • Libyan Ruler: 1969-2011 • Attended Military Academy • Introduced Sharia Law and nationalized oil (export) • Historical conflicts with Europe and America overmilitary actions and human rights issues and eventually stops oil trade with Western world.

Wednesday 3/26 - Revolutions • Libya • February 15-16 – protests against arrest of human rights activist) • Security forces respond with live fire, snipers and helicopter gunships • Protests spread and within a week, 1,000 protesters are killed • UN (United Nations) and EU (European Nations) approve sanctions, enact no-fly zone • NATO missiles kill one of Gaddafi’s sons and grandchildren • October 20, 2011 – Gaddafi is killed (found hidden in a sewer)
