  1. Congregational Prayer Sara Ibrahim

  2. What are Congregational Prayers? The congregational prayers are when the whole community prays together, with one person leading. This person is called the Imam.

  3. What is the importance of Congregational Prayers? It is important to pray with the community, and it also gives you a lot more Hasanat. It was mentioned that: If two people form a Jama'at, the reward for one Rak'at will be equal to one hundred and fifty prayers. If there are three people, the reward for one Rak'at will be equal to six hundred prayers. If there are four people, the reward for one Rak'at will be equal to one thousand two hundred prayers. If there are five people, the reward for one Rak'at will be equal to two thousand four hundred prayers, and such does the reward multiply, that if there are more than ten people in the Jama'at, then if all the skies were paper, all the seas were ink, all the trees were pens, and all the men, Jinn, and Angels got together as scribes to record the reward of one Rak'at, they would not be able to do it.

  4. How do people stand? The Imam I always in the front, and the followers stand behind him in a straight line, their shoulders close to each other. If there are only two people, the Imam and the Ma’mum; the Ma’mum could either stand right behind the Imam or on his right side. When there are many followers, they all stand behind the Imam, not next to him.

  5. What are the qualifications of the Imam of Salat al- Jama’at? • He must be sane • He must be able to recite correctly • A woman can only lead the prayers if everyone there is a woman. • He does not sin • He must believe in the 12 masterships of Imam

  6. What are some of the rules? 1415. * If a father or a mother orders his/her son to offer prayers in congregation, as a recommended precaution, he should obey. And if this order is based on parental love, and if disobedience would cause injury to their feelings, it is haraam for the son to disobey, even if it does not incur the parental wrath.

  7. More rules… 1416. * Mustahab prayers as a precaution cannot be offered in congregation in any situation, except Istisqa prayers (invoked for the rain) or prayers which were obligatory at one time, but became Mustahab later, like, EidulFitr and EidulAzha prayers, which are obligatory during the presence of Ma'soom Imam (A.S.) and are Mustahab during his occultation.

  8. More rules… 1418. * If Imam of the congregation is offering his own qadha, or on behalf of another person whose qadha is certain, he can be followed. However, if he is offering the qadha, his own or on behalf of the other, as a precaution, it is not permissible to follow him, unless the prayers being offered by the follower is also based on a precaution similar to that of Imam. However, it is not necessary that the follower may not have another reason for precaution.

  9. The Disciplines? The Imam should know if anyone participating in the Jama’at prayers is weak or aged, in which he should avoid long surahs. The Ma’mum should be lined up in straight lines, their shoulders in line.
