  1. Shift Cable Repair is Easy Occasionally, during the normal course of driving, the transmission cable can fail, usually leaving the vehicle stranded. The shifter lever will move freely as if it isn’t connected. Many people believe that the problem is the transmission, but fortunately, it isn’t that serious. Many repair shops may suggest replacing the entire transmission cable, which can be costly. An easier and more cost-effective option is to install a shift cable bushing kit in your car. The kit allows you to quickly repair your shift cable with replace the bushing without the help of a mechanic. The kit comes with a patent pending, custom molded bushing and installation tool to make the installation easy. A professional can do this repair in as little as 2 minutes for some vehicles. A non-professional can usually do this repair between 5 and 10 minutes. The bushing kit includes everything you’ll need to install it, aside from basic hand tools. Made from a superior quality material, this will outlast the factory bushing. No matter if you’re a professional auto technician or just someone interested in saving money by repairing your own car, this kit will work for you using these basic instructions: Set the parking brake and block the wheels, and place the shifter lever in Park. Check to see that the lever on the transmission is in park and check the transmission cable to see if it’s become disconnected. If it has, the bushing has probably failed. You should be able to look closely to determine if this is the case. Use a pick or small screwdriver to remove the remains of the old bushing from the cable and transmission lever. Take note of the orientation of the bushing on the included instructions. Use the specific instructions to install the bushing, usually by using the included tools to press the bushing into the cable end. Reconnect the transmission cable to the transmission lever. Check the installation by shifting the transmission lever between park and first gear several times.
