Mission Statement • The mission of the Cumberland Fire Department is to continue to strive to provide the best possible fire protection and emergency medical services for the citizens of Cumberland. Our members are a group of highly skilled, trained, and experienced professionals who are dedicated to protect life, property, and the environment from fire and related disasters and provide the highest quality of emergency medical services to its citizens.

To Best Achieve Our Mission The Cumberland Fire Department Is Committed To: • Provide highly efficient and exceptional emergency response for fire, rescue, and medical calls. • Provide public education and awareness and actively participate in the community to provide for the safety and well being of the people who live and work in Cumberland. • Provide the members of the Cumberland Fire Department with the highest quality of training and education. • Provide an extensive network of support services which includes fire prevention, fire investigation, code enforcement, plan reviews, and fire and rescue apparatus and station maintenance. • Provide a safe and healthy environment to benefit the mental and physical well being of the members of the Cumberland Fire Department.

FY2011 Fire Department Revenue • Allegany County Appropriations:$189,688.00 • SB508 Funds:$ 31,789.74 • Allegany County Gaming Distribution:$ 3,065.37 • Ambulance Transport Fees Paid: $691,584.45 (All fees paid in FY2011 for EMS transports in current and previous years thru March, 2011.) Medical Claim-Aid is the billing agent for the City of Cumberland • Ambulance Paramedic Intercept Fees: $27,663.77 (All paramedic intercept fees paid in FY2011 for paramedic intercepts in current and previous years thru February, 2011.)

FY2012 Budget Request Overview • Overtime: Drastically reduced Overtime Costs due to hiring SAFER-funded Firefighters • Vehicle Repairs: Reduced nearly 10%; however, repairs will probably increase due to age of apparatus • Uniforms and Accessories: Equip 8 SAFER-funded Firefighters Unable to purchase budgeted uniforms, accessories due to FY10 and FY11 Budget Restraints • Firefighting Supplies: Six (6) 60-minute carbon fiber cylinders = $5,760.00 Porta-Count Tester = $8,300.00 Rescue Cutter = $4,592.00 Thermal Imaging Camera = $4,800.00 • Gasoline and Diesel: Increase due to expected rising costs • Building Maintenance: Replace roof and interior paint at East Side Fire Station #3 Note: Applied for CDBG funding to renovate South End Fire Station #2

  23. Headquarters Station #1(Built 1976) • Headquarters, located in the Public Safety building at the corner of Bedford and N. Mechanic Streets. • Houses three engines, one ladder truck, one rescue truck, and three ambulances.

  24. Station 2(Built 1926) • Station 2, located in South Cumberland at Third and Race Sts. Houses one engine and one ambulance.

  25. Station 3(Built 1926) • Station 3, located in the East Side on Frederick Street. • Can only house one engine.

Fire Department Future Needs: • New Fire Station in the Willowbrook Road Area to replace obsolete Fire Station #3 that was built in 1926. • New Fire Station to replace obsolete Fire Station #2 that was built in 1926. • New Ambulance due to age and high mileage. Current Ambulance Fleet includes: Medic 1 - #370 2000 Freightliner Ambulance 112,640 miles Medic 2 - #343 2007 International Ambulance 114,078 miles Medic 3 - #344 2002 Freightliner Ambulance 118,528 miles Medic 4 - #342 1996 Ford Ambulance 51,495 miles • Replace Fire Apparatus Truck #1 that is nearing its life expectancy. The Fire Dept. will apply for a new aerial tower when the 2011 AFG Grant Application Period opens under the Firefighting Vehicle Acquisition Program. An aerial tower costs nearly $1,000,000.00. If awarded, the City share is 10% of the total project cost, or $100,000.00. During a discussion at a recent “Grants Meeting”, the City may be able to add additional $150,000 since it appears the threshold for an award is $750,000.00.
