  1. 8 MOST COMMON RAW MATERIALS USED IN CNC MACHINE SHOPS

  2. Overview CNC machine shops use various raw materials to help produce high-quality parts. Many of these materials have been around for decades, while others have only developed their fan base in the last few years Regardless of how you slice it, there are a lot of raw materials floating around in the CNC world that you need to understand if you want to thrive.

  3. CNC machine shops use a wide variety of raw materials in their work. Here are eight of the most common materials used: Aluminum Aluminum is a lightweight metal that is often used in CNC machining. It is strong and durable, making it ideal for many application. Stainless Steel Stainless steel is a strong metal that is resistant to corrosion. It is often used in CNC machining for applications that require a high degree of precision.

  4. Brass Brass is a strong metal that is often used in CNC machining. It is resistant to corrosion and has a high resistance to wear. Copper Copper is a soft metal that is often used in CNC machining. It is a good conductor of heat and electricity, making it ideal for many applications.

  5. Titanium Titanium is a strong metal that is lightweight and resistant to corrosion. It is often used in CNC machining for applications that require a high degree of precision. Carbon Fiber Carbon fiber is a very light and thin material that is strength-wise on par with steel. However, it is far less expensive. Another advantage of this material is that it is relatively easy to work with. It doesn’t require much skill or experience, so anyone can become a carbon fiber engineer if they want to.

  6. Plastics Plastics are an excellent material for many applications, including gears, shafts, and bearings. However, when using it for gears, one must be careful to machine it sparingly. This will significantly reduce its life and durability. Composites Composites are the most misunderstood of all the materials discussed so far. They are essentially plastic with different shapes or forms. This shape can range from a wire to a solid sphere.

  7. Conclusion CNC machine shops use many raw materials to produce high-quality parts. Understanding which raw materials are used in your industry will help you to thrive in this increasingly competitive industry.
