  1. ICONIC VENETIAN WINDOW BLINDS IN INDIA A Venetian blind is made up of horizontal slats that are stacked one on top of the other. Basic horizontal slats consisting of metal, vinyl, PVC, or plastic make up Venetian blinds. Wood slats are sometimes used; however, they are now more commonly referred to as wood blinds in India. Fabric tapes or cables (i.e., Ladders) are used to suspend Venetian blinds, which allow all slats to be turned in unison over almost 180 degrees. The slats may be turned in one way to overlap with one side looking inward, and then in the other direction to overlap with the other side facing inside. By changing the rotation between those extremes, varying degrees of separation between the slats may be achieved. Each slat also has lift cables that run through slots. The bottom of the blind rises higher as these cords are pulled, forcing the lowest slats to push against the underside of the next highest slat as the blind is lifted. The lift cords are combined with the rotating cables in slots on the two sides of each slat in a contemporary version. This eliminates the holes that would normally be necessary to allow a slat to spin despite the presence of a lift cable, reducing the amount of light passing through a closed blind. Slat widths range from 16 to 120 mm, with 25 mm being the most frequent.
