3. History of organisation:
Embocraft was started in 1986 to alleviate poverty in the areas surrounding Botha’s Hill and the Valley of a Thousand Hills in KwaZulu Natal. Due to the success in these areas, training is now held through out the entire province. Embocraft was registered as a Training Trust in 1988.
In, CARE Deutschland purchased the old Botha’s Hill Post Office to facilitate training. The property is ideally situated within close proximity to the “Embo” and “Valley of a Thousand Hills” communities and also on the main road of 1000 Hills Tourism route.
In 2001, Lions Clubs International Foundation sponsored the building of an additional 610 square metres of training facilities on the property.
In 2008, the “eBlack Business Centre” sponsored by Emily Black an intern from CIDA Canada, was opened. Basic computer training and business skills are taught.
At present Embocraft is funded by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund.
Through mentoring programs and with the introduction of relevant business training, Embocraft is assisting groups in the formation of business structures and developing potential entrepreneurs with the aim of achieving sustainable income generation projects.
Embocraft has a constant stream of requests from communities in need of skills training that requires a constant stream of donor funding.

20. INDABUKOMeans “Origins”returning to our Zulu roots All processes involved in the project are environmentally friendly and sourced locally.
Everything used for the dying processes can be recycled and is composted back to nature.
The techniques used are safe and the natural materials used in processing and coloring the fabrics connect us to our African roots, thus caring for our land and its people.
This is important in a developing country.
It also provides much needed local employment. We are a group of young artists living in the beautiful Valley of A Thousand Hills, KwaZulu Natal.
Our art reflects the rich cultural heritage of the Zulu nation.
Once the art work has been created, it is then exposed onto screens for printing on to cotton fabrics with water-based inks. All dyeing and screen printing processes are done individually, by hand. These skills result in a unique income generating business for the artist.
