T4L - 2009 • Semester 2 T4L announced in inPrincipal on Friday 11/9/09 • The announcement can be found here: • http://tinyurl.com/T4L2009S2 • T4L Website - http://tinyurl.com/T4Lspecs • DET Std Equipment - http://tinyurl.com/SE4DET • Semester 2 Rollout covers all schools P4 and up (P5/6 were completed in Semester1) • 20,000 extra T4L units over 4 yrs for K-6

T4L – 2009 Status Update • ACER Notebooks: • All orders for Acer should now be complete • Acer Install Guide: http://tinyurl.com/acerT4L09 • DELL Servers: • Orders for DELL servers should now be complete • Please store the server securely – installations are being scheduled (over 60 to be installed) • Apple Servers: • Delivered & Installations will be finalised this year

  7. T4L - Status Update • Apple Desktops and Notebooks: • DET and Apple are in negotiations re- models & images – due to new models & OSX releases • Lenovo Desktops: • Deliveries start Tues 1/12/09 with installations starting Wed 2/12 • All installations will be complete by Fri 11/12/09 • Schools should have been contacted by Best International to confirm their dates

T4L – Delivery and Install • Sydney Region T4L 2009 Pre-Installation Checklist: http://tinyurl.com/T4L09check • NOTE: 2009 T4L PCs will NOT be bolted down • Arrangements have been made to have the installers join PCs to the school domain in schools with an SR-managed Windows server • Any issues or queries regarding T4L, please contact Bambos Meitani directly - 0408640208

T4L – Takeback Program • Each vendor has different requirements – please take note of their individual guidelines • Takeback is optional and must be requested • Boxes are required by all vendors • Complete units must be returned (inc. cables) • Details of the T4L Takeback Program can be found here: • http://tinyurl.com/T4Ltakeback

  10. T4L Servers Each server install takes approximately 3 days and needs to be scheduled ITSU are currently completing 2-3 schools per week More than 60 new T4L and discretionary servers have been ordered to date Priority is being given to schools where existing servers have come out of warranty

T4L Servers Installations are complete at 15 schools New servers are configured with Windows Server 2008 An approximate schedule for the server installations at all remaining schools will be distributed before the end of the year Schools will need to consider backup options and UPS requirements as these are not included with the server purchase

Building the Education Revolution All schools in Sydney Region are receiving construction works as part of the B.E.R. program If your school is receiving a new standard Library building, a complete Connected Classroom (IWB + VC) will be included – even if it’s your second Connected Classroom If there is a new Library, the school’s Campus Distributor will be relocated to it. There is an existing procedure for this that schools should be aware of. In total 31 new libraries are being built in Sydney Region

  30. Building the Education Revolution Building work will be occurring during the Summer holidays in some schools. With advanced notification, ITSU can liaise with AbiGroup during this time If any DELL-installed IWBs need to be relocated, DELL must be contracted to do this work, not the builders Where new building work impacts on existing cabling pathways, please notify Paul Clark ASAP New construction can disrupt your existing school LAN Planning for integrating the new work with the school LAN

  34. DER 2009 Sydney Region • Over the past 6months: • 400+ applicants for 51 TSO positions. • All High schools now have onsite support • All schools have Wireless Phase 1 installed. • 7909 of 8190 laptops assigned state. • Primary Functions • RMU, My Locker, Computrace, SCCM

DER – What’s Coming in 2010 • S2 – Expected to start in March. • New model will be blue in colour (2009 was red) • Wireless Phase 2 & Associated wireless projects • Full functionality: • Wireless access in all learning spaces. • All promised services such as printing. • Completion of Airwave monitoring system. • T3 Rollout in Semester 2

Some NSW DET ICT Statistics Currently ITD runs 450 Virtual Servers There are nearly 2,000 Video Conference endpoints Currently there are (less than 4 years old): 200,000 T4L + unknown discretionary PCs in schools 30,000 PCs in TAFE 60,000 PCs in corporate areas DER will add 265,000 PC's to this By January, 23,000 wireless AP's will have been installed in high schools for DER

My Secret Question: Times Three The Department has introduced a new password security process to keep your personal information safe and our networks secure Some school students have been able to use their knowledge of the teachers in their school to guess a teacher’s password or secret answer From December, you will be able to set three secret question & answer combinations, rather than just one If you click “I forgot my password” you need to answer all three questions correctly.

ActivStudioLicencing The licence DET holds for ActivStudio and ActivPrimary ceases in March 2010 ALL PCs and Macs with these programs installed MUST UNINSTALL ActivStudio, ActivPrimary and ActivResources (unless the school has an ActivBoard) DET will provide clear instructions for completing this uninstall procedure All schools should be using SMART Notebook 10 with their IWBs

New School Websites Service NSW DET will shortly release v2 of its new School Websites service with the ability to add new pages Schools can construct and update their school website through a browser No need to learn Dreamweaver/FrontPage Windows or Mac Multiple templates available P5/P6 schools $40p.a. – all others $440p.a. http://tinyurl.com/NSWDETSWS

Curriculum K-12 and CLI • Following a review of both Curriculum K-12 Directorate and the Centre for Learning Innovation, it has been decided that the two entities are to merge • Planning for the merge is underway now with both areas ceasing to exist as we know them from the start of Term 3 2010 • The new directorate is as yet unnamed but will be part of the Office of Schools • There will be cost-savings through job reductions

Connect My Classroom • ITD Learning Systems are developing the solution proposed by Stuart Hasic in May 2008 • Teachers will be able to lodge their intentions to use Videoconferencing, Email and Blogs between schools and find other interested teachers to connect with (Intranet dating) • The application will be part of the DET Portal and is expected to be released in early 2010
