  2. TEKS Content-Math-Patterns • (K.6) Patterns, relationships, and algebraic thinking. The student uses patterns to make predictions. • The student is expected to: • (A) use patterns to predict what comes next, including cause-and-effect relationships; and • (B) count by ones to 100.

  3. Describe who your learners are: • This lesson will be used in a Kindergarten classroom of at least 13 ESL students

  4. Learning Objectives • Bloom’s Taxonomy Knowledge Level • At the end of this lesson the student will be able to: • Reproduce a pattern and; • Duplicate that same pattern at least once more • Blooms Taxonomy Application Level • At the end of this lesson the student will be able to: • Calculate, up to 100, the number of circles when the class puts their patterns together.

  5. This will be a learning activity using classroom materials • Materials: • A lengthy white piece of paper for each student • Construction paper of 7 different colors • Scissors for each student • Glue for each student • Marker for numbering circles and • Stapler to staple circles together

  6. Directions • First the teacher needs to trace circles on colored construction paper .Trace two circles on 1 piece of construction paper and use 7 different colors • Discuss what patterns are with the class, and read a book on patterns. For example, Pair of Socks by Stuart J. Murphy. • Have children pick out 4 different colors of construction paper each, and have them pick up their white sheet of paper

Directions cont.; • Have children cut out their circles and paste on the white sheet of paper in any order they would like. • Once they are done, have the students duplicate the same pattern they created on their white sheet of paper. • Once the class is finished have them name their patterns and show the class. • After they are done presenting the teacher will staple the circles together and number them. • The students will count along with the teacher to 100.

  8. Evaluations • The evaluation will take place, when the child is presenting, the teacher will ask questions about the pattern. For example: • What are the colors of your pattern? • If your pattern could keep going, what would the next color be? And the next? And so on… • How many circles should you have in total? (answer is 8 one 4 circle pattern and then repeated once more) • And finally what is the name of your pattern? • When they count to 100 every child is to count once they have added on their circles to the classes' circles(then once more when they have all been added)
