    3. 8 AAC 61.1050. Additional Permit-Required Confined Space Standards Alaska Occupational Health & Safety Regulations Regarding Permit Required Confined Spaces. Includes addendums to CFR 29 1910.146.

    4. Definitions CFR 29 1910.14 (b) Confined Space: Is large enough that an employee can enter and perform work. Has limited or restricted means for entry / exit. Is not designed for continuous employee occupancy.

Definitions CFR 29 1910.14 (b) Hazardous Atmosphere: Flammable gases or vapors in excess of 10% LFL Airborne combustible dust concentration that exceeds its LFL Oxygen concentration below 19.5% or above 23.5% Atmospheric conditions that exceed the permissible exposure limit for a specific substance. Any other IDLH condition.

    6. Definitions CFR 29 1910.14 (b) Permit-Required Confined Space Contains or has a potential to contain a hazardous atmosphere. Contains a material that has a potential for engulfing an entrant. Is configured so that an entrant could become trapped by collapsing walls, or a floor that slopes sharply. Contains any other recognized serious safety / health hazard.

    7. General Requirements CFR 29 1910.14 (c) (2) The employer must inform employees of the locations of,and hazards posed by, confined spaces.

General Requirements CFR 29 1910.14 (c) (5) An employer may bypass many of the confined space regulations if: The only hazard is posed by the permit space is an actual, or potential hazardous atmosphere. Continuous forced air ventilation is sufficient to maintain a safe atmosphere. Performs monitoring and inspections to assure that the above precautions are effective.
