  1. We will begin by making the sign of the Cross Leader: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen We pause to think of any special intention we want to pray for today. We light our Form Candle for all our prayers today.

  2. 13th week of the year - Background From the 23rd-28th July millions of young people will gather with Pope Francis in Rio de Janiero, Brazil for the World Youth day. Begun in 1984 by Blessed John Paul II the last WYD in 2011 saw 2 million young people gather together to celebrate their faith. The theme given is “Go make disciples of all nations.”

  3. Monday 1st July 2013 Reader: “I will betroth myself to you forever, betroth you with integrity and justice, with tenderness and love. I will betroth you to myself with faithfulness, and you will come to know the Lord.” (The Prophet Hosea 2:21-22) Together we pray: Father, you sent your Son to share the world, you chose men and women, so that through him, with him and in him they might proclaim the Good news of the Gospel to all nations and the joy of being witnesses may shine on the faces of all young people. Through Christ our Lord. Amen

  4. Tuesday 2nd July 2013 Reader: Jesus got into the boat followed by his disciples. Without warning a storm broke over the lake, so violent that the waves were breaking right over the boat. But he was asleep. So they went to him saying, “Save us Lord we are going down.” And he said to them, why are you so frightened, you men of little faith.” And with that he stood up and rebuked the winds and the seas and all was calm again. The men were astounded and said, “Whatever kind of man is this, even the wind and the seas obey him.” (Gospel of Matthew 8:23-27)

  5. Together we pray Christ, our Redeemer, the image of your open arms in Rio, welcomes all people. May those who travel to the World Youth Day this year experience the power of life with you and be strengthened in their Christian witness. Through Christ our Lord. Amen Pray for Rev Neil Peoples who will be ordained as a priest at St Peter’s Church, Leicester on Saturday.

  6. Wednesday 3rd July St Thomas the Apostle Reader: St Thomas, an apostle of Jesus. Tradition holds that he took the message of Jesus Christ to India. “Eight days later the disciples were in the house again and Thomas was with them . The doors were closed, but Jesus came in and stood among them. ‘Peace be with you,’ he said. Then he spoke to Thomas, ‘put your finger here; look here at my hands. Give me your hand; put it into my side. Doubt no longer but believe.’ Thomas replied, ‘My Lord and my God!’ Jesus said to them: ‘You believe because you can see me, happy are those who have not seen and yet believe.’ (John 20:28-29)

  7. Together we pray Eternal Father, we thank you for our world, different nations united as the one human family. Help us to live together in peace and generosity, that the whole world may resound with your glory and presence. Amen

  8. Thursday 4th July 2013 Reader: “Seek good and not evil so that you may live, and that the Lord, God of hosts, may really be with you as you claim he is. Hate evil, love good, maintain justice at the city gate.” (Prophet Amos 5:14-15) Reader: God of life, you continue to call your pilgrim people to share in your love. As young people prepare for the World Youth Day in Rio, pour out your Spirit on them; so that they will be better disciples to all nations. Through Christ our Lord. Amen

  9. Friday 5th July 2013 Reader: “As Jesus was walking he saw a man named Matthew sitting by the Customs House and he said to him; “Follow me.” And he got up and followed him. While he was at dinner, in the house, it happened that a number of tax collectors and sinners came to sit at the table with Jesus and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples,; “Why is your master eating with these people?” When he heard this he replied; “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, go and learn the meaning of the word; “What I want is mercy, not sacrifice.” (Gospel of Matthew 9:9-13)

  10. Together we pray Lord, may we grow closer to you, recognising our needs. May we be more merciful on others, especially on those most in need. Through Christ our Lady. Amen
