  13. Debts, Debtors, Trespasses, Sins, Whatever

  14. What is correct? “opheilamata” = debts

  15. Possibly: The moral debt incurred as a result of sin

  16. Our whole life is one vast, accumulative, unpayable debt to God.

  17. Debt Slavery - The Ancient Worl

  18. Nehemiah 5:1-11Now the men and their wives raised a great outcry against their fellow Jews. Some were saying, “We and our sons and daughters are numerous; in order for us to eat and stay alive, we must get grain.”

  19. Others were saying, “We are mortgaging our fields, our vineyards and our homes to get grain during the famine.” Still others were saying, “We have had to borrow money to pay the king’s tax on our fields and vineyards.

  20. Although we are of the same flesh and blood as our fellow Jews and though our children are as good as theirs, yet we have to subject our sons and daughters to slavery. Some of our daughters have already been enslaved,

  21. but we are powerless, because our fields and our vineyards belong to others.” When I heard their outcry and these charges, I was very angry.

  22. * Economy was terrible* Taxes were too high* Rebuilding the city took men from their farms

  23. * Forced to sell daughters into slavery* People were basically collateral*Nehemiah got “burned up”

  29. * Our forgiveness of others is a condition that must be met

  31. When we pray, “Forgive us our debts...” we are asking for an attitude of our heart which will unite us with God.

  32. Hound Dog Bitterness

  33. Forgiveness is about opening yourself to the future, leaving the past behind.

  34. When your soul is corroded by hate or resentment it is impossible for God’s grace to live in that graceless space

  35. Our ability to forgive is evidence of God’s grace in our heart.
