  4. Professional Handball Leagues • There are several foreign handball leagues. • To the right are the countries in with these leagues reside. • Denmark • Germany • France • Iran • Spain

  6. The court • A handball court is fairly simple to set up in your teaching space. • Using lines from the basketball court in your gymnasium makes it even easier when available.

  7. Rules • 7 players (including one goalie) • Throw Off • Traveling • 3 Second Rule • 3 Step Rule

  8. Rules Rules Review! ILLEGAL! Click! • No touching below the knee • No double dribbling • No Diving • Goal Area Rule • Minor foul/ violation result • Free Throw

  9. Passing • There are 4 types of passes. • Chest pass • Bounce Pass • Overhead Pass • Baseball Pass • Passing is very important to the team’s success in handball. • Students develop understanding of teamwork

  10. Shooting • Shooting gives you the chance to score • Goalies make it tougher to score • Aim for the corners of the goal • Target Practice • Set up cones • Variation with this drill is important

  11. Shooting • Have the students shoot • Standing still • On the run • Backhanded • Around a defender (partner that is not trying to block the throw) • While jumping

  12. Drills • Pair up or group up students • Set up targets and designate a goal line • Have students travel across the gym • Follow the rules of the game • Let them choose the pass and shot styles they perform

  13. Warm-Ups • Active sport = important to warm up • Make the warm up more enjoyable • Pass and Shot Drills

  14. Warm ups • Pair up students and have them pass back and forth • Do this while circling the gym • Your verbal cues indicate the pass • Sit ups while passing a ball back forth. • Push up position game

  15. Warm Ups • Students make 2 to 4 lines • Practice Shooting • Increase Blood Flow • One at a time take a shot on target. • Keep fast and active by setting a time limit.

  16. Teaching Defense • Cannot grab a ball from an opponent • Cannot make physical contact with an opponent
