  1. Hunger in the United States. By Ruby Harris and Gina Norman February 8th,2012 S.S./4

  2. Problems with hunger • There is hunger everywhere in the United States of America. • It affects pretty much every one who lives in poverty stricken towns/areas of the United States. • It affects about 49 million people in the US alone. (Ampleharvest.org) • One in six people are affected by hunger in the US including more than one in five children. (feedingamerica.org)

  3. The root cause of hunger. • Poverty. • Low wages & unemployment. • Rising cost of living expenses. • With the rising costs of living and the decline of employment, a lot of people are going hungry each night.

  4. Scope. • Hunger in the US is a national issue. • It happens everywhere that has unemployment.

  5. Possible Solutions. • Create more jobs. • Lower the cost of living. • Create more food programs.

  6. The best solution. The best solution is to create jobs.

  7. Why is it the best? • Creating more jobs would be the best solution because it would give the economy a boost it would get and keep people off the streets. • It could also help decrease in crime because people wouldn’t steal and commit petty crimes just to go to jail so that they have a place to live and food to eat.

  8. Who we contacted. • U.S. Senator Chris Coons • (coons.senate.gov) • U.S. Senator Tom Carper • (carper.senate.gov) • We contacted them through their websites.

  9. Letter Dear Senator Coons, We are writing to you to inform you about the hunger issue in the United States. The causes of hunger in the U.S. is that there is not many jobs in the U.S. Some people do not have enough money to buy food for their families. This affects many people throughout the country.

  10. Letter continued One solution that we have found is to create more jobs. This would boost the economy and keep people off of the streets. If people have a good place to live and food to eat every night, they will feel less impelled to go out and commit petty crimes like stealing and vandalism just so that they can go to jail and have a roof over their heads and food to eat. We could start them off with volunteer work to get them doing something during the day to keep them off of the streets. Then we could feed them and give them shelter. That would put them on the right track instead of on the streets selling drugs for money, selling their bodies for money, and any other petty crimes that they could commit. Then eventually, we could help get them up on their feet and help them get a steady job and a place to live.

  11. Letter continued Thank you for your time and consideration on the issues with hunger in the U.S. Please feel free to contact us at Salem5@Netzero.net or RubyLynn707@Gmail.Com Sincerely, Ruby L. Harris Gina R. Norman
