  1. STEM Solar Car Competition When: Saturday May 10, 2014 Where: Edison State College Time: 9:00am -3:00pm Lunch: provided Each Middle School will send one team to represent their school at the competition (school winner). The winner will be the team with the fastest car in a double elimination tournament.

  2. School Design Competition • Teams:randomly chosen 4 students per team (draw names) • Design Competition: • Each group will research solar cars. • Based on research, each group will design and draw a solar car that they believe will be the fastest. • In each class students vote on their class’ favorite 3 designs. The team with the most points moves on to the solar car construction round.

  3. Solar Car Construction • Materials: solar car kit, glue guns/sticks, x-acto knives, display board • Body and other materials that may be needed for construction are not provided. • Solar Car Construction Competition: • The top team from each class will use the Solar Car kit to actually build and test their design. • The top team from each class will race their cars to establish an overall school winning team. • The winning team moves on to represent their school at the District STEM Competition.

  4. Rules of Competition • Specifications: must be followed or group will be disqualified • Body can be designed using any material (cardboard, plastic, wood, etc.) , any dimension or weight. • You may NOT use different motors, additional motors or any other propulsion other than what is provided. • NO other electronics may be used to enhance solar car. • Wiring, motor, and gears must be visible and/or accessible to judges for inspection prior to racing. • The car must have a minimum of 3 wheels and can be as short or long as desired.
