  1. Major Insights about the Oxford Referencing Style Oxford is one of the most popular forms of the citation which uses footnotes at the bottom of the page instead of the in-text citation. The Oxford referencing also has a different set of guidelines and limitations which separate it from other referencing styles such as APA and Harvard. So, if you are new to this style of referencing and having a tough time preparing a paper in this referencing style, here are some major details that you need to know. 1. The footnote citation: As mentioned, the Oxford style of citation uses footnotes to cite the sources of information instead of using the in-text citation format. You can use the help of an oxford referencing generator to create the footnotes for your paper. But in order to do so, you need to know how to create the footnotes. In the text, you need to insert a superscript number at the point where you have used the external reference. In this Oxford referencing style, you need to start your footnote numbering from 1 and continue the sequence throughout the paper. In case you are using the same source of information several times in the paper, you need to give full details

  2. of the source in the first footnote. For the next mentions, you need to use the shortened format of author surname, abbreviated title of the publication and page number. If you generate the citation using an Oxford reference generator, make sure you use it correctly. 2. Citing a quote: If you are using a direct quote under 30 words in the content, it needs to be enclosed within single inverted commas. In addition, the quotes should be immediately followed by the superscript number that will refer to a footnote at the bottom of the page. Long quotations involving more than 30 words need to be indented in Oxford referening example of online and offline sources. 3. Creating the reference list: The reference list is placed at the end of the paper, in a separate page. The page needs to be titled “Reference List”. The list should be arranged in alphabetical order by author surname. Here are some crucial details about putting the details in the reference list.  In the footnote, the initial of author’s first name comes before the surname (P. Hughes), while in the reference list, the surname comes first (Stuart, L.).  If the source does not have any author, you need to use the first substantive word in the title (not the article A, An, or The) while putting it in the alphabetical order.  If you are using the information from a certain page of the source, you need to mention the page number in the reference list with the entry. For an entire book, the page number is not necessary. With these aforementioned details, you will be able to prepare the paper as per the oxford referencing style guideline. However, if you still do not feel confident, it is recommended to use an online reference generator tool for Oxford style.
