  1. New Teacher Technology Orientation Everything You Need to Know About MCS Technology Part 1 Jodie Moorhead IT Facilitator Jodie.moorhead@mcschools.net (318) 325-0601, ext. 5402

  2. Today’s Agenda… • Logging On Your Computer • MCS Email • CourseWhere • OnCourse • SharpSchool Website and Resources

  3. MCS Email From Infolink • You can find MCS email in several locations on the website • Your username will almost always be firstname.last and, after the initial login, will be what you choose • We strongly suggest that you use the Outlook desktop application to do email at work. Calendar invites can be added directly to your calendar. Contact groups can be created and edited. • Let’s check you email account now! From MCS Website

  4. Accessing Your Email No matter which method you choose to access the Outlook Web App, you will see this screen. Remember… Username – firstname.lastnamePassword – password1 (1st Time Only) Changing Your PasswordOn the options menu dropdown, select “Change Your Password.” Follow the steps to reset your password. Please remember, changing your password in email will change the password you use to log on your computer. Whenever you create accounts for software or websites for educational reasons, we always suggest you use your MCS email and password for ease of rememberance.

  5. CourseWhere • CourseWhere is our professional development registration system. Most every PD session will be on the site for you to register, including faculty meetings, PLCs, etc. • While some people are not required to maintain CLUs, it is a very good idea to keep CLUs as proof of further education as part of a professional growth plan, etc. • Certificates will be given out at the end of PD sessions as proof of attendance and completion. Please keep up with these. • You create your own account in CourseWhere. The instructions are on the next slide!

  6. Creating Your CourseWhere Account • The easiest way to locate CourseWhere is under the Quick Links on the MCS web site. • Please remember, this is not the LDOE CourseWhere site. That is a totally separate account for state-led PD sessions. • After clicking the CourseWhere link, you will see a grey bar and below that will be a “Logon” link. Click that. If it is your first time, you will click the button under “New to this site?” on the right-hand side. • Fill in all fields and then click the “Submit ID/Password” button at the bottom. Once again, we strongly suggest using your MCS email information. • This will take you another screen. Fill in all fields or it will no create your account. You can always edit it later. • We cannot see your password, and there is a link on the log-in page for them to email your password to you. That is why we suggest using your MCS email.

  7. Registering for a Session • Log in to CourseWhere • Select the View by Month option • Find the session you would like to register for • Click on the session name for a full description and the time to register Click the “Register” button and then make sure all of the information is complete. You can select special needs, too!

  8. OnCourse • OnCourse is the online system that MCS uses to create and store lesson plans. In addition, you have a calendar, website, and other tools. • You can watch the video on the next page if you need additional help locating OnCourse on the MCS website.

  9. What You Will See… • Your main area of concern will be “My Planner” – this is where you will input your lesson plans for the week. You will also have a basic website here, too. • Your principal will let you know the deadline for having your lesson plans posted. • We are going to look briefly at the lesson planner today, but a more in- depth training will be held one afternoon. • If you need help, there are tutorials on the OnCourse website, or you can contact Jodie Moorhead (ext. 5402).

  10. What the Planner Looks Like… This is a default template. You can change your template by clicking here! This is the work space. Click in any of these spaces to go to the area to type your lesson plans. You can share lesson plans with your fellow teachers by clicking the “Sharing” link. There is a video on the Prime Time PD Site.

  11. Key Features of OnCourse Lesson Plans • You can attach standards to your lesson plans so you do not have to type them. • You can attach documents (tests, hand-outs, etc.) to your lesson plans so your principal can see what the lesson includes. • You can place homework in the appropriate section at the bottom of the page and it will appear on the calendar automatically. • You can link videos and images to your lesson plans, but I do not suggest doing that.

  12. SharpSchool • SharpSchool is our new web site provider. We have been with them for one year now. • All of our resources and helpful hints are off of this web site. • You also will have a personal teacher page located on your school’s web site. • There will be trainings on how to create, change, and personalize your page later. Watch CourseWhere and the Recent News for more information. • Most of the tools you will need are located on the Resources drop down menu, then MCS Resource Links.

  13.
