  2. Successes • Produced the desired quantity of 50 acrylic clocks • Achieved acceptable level of quality

  3. Failures • Scraped six products during production • Broke six 1/32 inch end mills • Reworked 5 parts as a result • Lost 2 products during finishing operations

  4. Results • Using scrapped material was cheaper, but produced greater variability from piece to piece • Acrylic was easily susceptible to scratches • Spent twice as long manufacturing than what we expected • Over on budgeted machine and labor hours

  5. Conclusion • Moved toward a more Industrial Engineering type of environment • Improved process plans • Setup reduction techniques • Assembly Line • Cross-functional team

  6. Improvements • Find a more consistent and scratch resistant material • Use a vacuum fixture to end mill around entire work piece • Better cut-off operations
