  2. The Future Tense • The future tense is used to indicate an action that will, shall, or is going to take place. • ie…I will clean my room tomorrow. • Yo limpiaré mi cuarto mañana.

  3. The Future Tense 2. The future tense is also used to express possibility or probability in the present. ie…I wonder what time it is? ¿Qué hora será? (Hint – probability expressed in a question is usually translated as “wonder” and in a statement is translated as “probably”)

  4. Steps to conjugate in the Future • The stem is the entire infinitive. • ie...hablar, comer, vivir • 2. Add the regular future endings. • ie...é emos • ás éis • á án • (hint – same as endings for present tense endings for HABER plus accents)

Irregular Verbs These verbs have irregular stems but regular endings in the future tense: (hint – memorize the stem to one form and you will have them all) caber cabr- querer querr- decir dir- saber sabr- haber habr- salir saldr- hacer har- tener tendr- poder podr- valer valdr- poner pondr- venir vendr-

Irregular Verbs These verbs generally fall into three categories: 1. those that add an R, 2. those that add a DR, and 3. those that just have “special stems”. 1.caber cabr- 2.salir saldr- 1.saber sabr- 2.tener tendr- 1.haber habr- 2.valer valdr- 1.poder podr- 2.venir vendr- 1.querer querr- 3.decir dir- 2.poner pondr- 3.hacer har-

  7. Sentence Examples • Hablaré con mi hermana mañana. • I will talk with my sister tomorrow. • Juan bailará el lunes. • Juan will dance on Monday. • Tomaremos los refrescos a la fiesta. • We will drink the sodas at the party.
