Legislature---Parliament • House of Lords: hereditary peers or peeresses, senior judges, church figures and life peers (695Lords) • House of commons: members of parliament (659) • Three functions to examine proposals for new laws to observe government policy and administration to debate the major issues of the day

Executive • Prime Minister: • presides over the Cabinet, allocates functions among ministers • Informs the Queen of the general business of the Government • Recommends a number of appointments to the Queen • Cabinet: chosen by Prime Minister support the Government’s delivery reform programme • Civil Service: offer advice, implement the policies Tony Blair
