  1. BIRTH TO MILLENNIUM MISSISSAUGA’S SPORTS HERITAGE BY: MIKE TOTH

  2. About the Author Award winning journalist Mike Toth has lived in Mississauga since 1968. As both a Sports Editor and editor of the Mississauga News, he covered events and athletes at local arenas and playing fields, Olympic Games and World Championships. Over a career spanning near a half-century, he was also Editor of North American Soccer, World Sports News, and Tele-Sport; and co-editor for The Toronto Star and Hamilton Spectator.

  3. Book Summary By history’s measure Mississauga is a city still in its bootees, a young kid on the block, but heir to a rich sporting tradition. People in what is now Mississauga were participating in recreational and leisure activities, playing games for fun, competing in more meaningful fashion or pursuing excellence in various forms, long before political interests decided that bigger is better and merged villages and small towns into one vast city. Long before the dawn of a new millennium, there were Olympians and Olympic glory, world champions, Stanley Cup and Grey Cup winners in what was to become Canada’s sixth largest city. This book is a tip of the hat to all of Mississauga’s good sports big and small.
