  1. Jean Giraud(Moebius)

  2. This project is about Moebius, a man whose death is quite recent and was well-known as Moebius, but his real name was Jean Giraud. Moebius is just a nickname. He was born in France in 1938 and he died recently this year on 10th March, at the age of 73. Although he is probably not well-known by young people, he has been one of the most important illustrators and comic authors during the last decades (70s and 80s), and has influenced a lot on animation, science fiction, advertising and videogames. He was who designed some characters in films like ALIEN or STAR WARS. Maybe, he is a strange artist, and I say this because of his stories, which are set on fantastic worlds and, in some people’s opinions, they escape from reason. When he was young, he was for a time addicted to sex, marihuana, so I think that this is why his stories are so unreal. Anyway, his works have turned him into one of the most venerated comic authors of Europe, and here, I’ll show you some of his most famous works.

  3. The lieutenant Blueberry

  4. First, here we’ve got The Lieutenant Blueberry. This story is set in the Western, the place Moebius spent his childhood, and he illustrated it with the help of the screenwriter Michael Charleir and it was published in a magazine called PILOT. It’s about a man called Mike Donovan, who is accused of killing his girlfriend’s father. He is persecuted by the real killer and he escapes from his city. Somewhere, he became a lieutenant and he changes his name. Then he got to live with the Apache indians and he meets the Great Boss Cochise and he falls in love with his daughter and, as well, he fights with a Chaman.

  5. Then we’ve got ARZACH, a series of four stories that are extremely fantastic and sometimes irrational, with very little dialogue, so that the meaning of the pictures is stringer. In one of the stories, Arzach falls in love with a woman and, flying on his gigantic bird he kills her husband, but then, he discovers that she is another creature.

  6. In another, he fights with a big monkey for the possession of a bridge where the man wants to rest in his journey. In the final episode, there are flashbacks of other chapters.

  7. There is another where he has to help a green robot that is being attacked by little humanoids.

  8. Another famous comic by this author is THE HERMETIC GARAGE , which was published in another magazine, Metal Hurlant and it is set on an imaginary world on an asteriod that is being studied by Major Grubert. The protagonist, about whom other authors have written other stories, is called Jerry Cornelius and he lives on the asteroid.

  9. And finally, THE INCAL, a futuristic story of a detective on another planet. With the help of a strange bird, he avoids an intergalactic war on his planet.

  10. To sum up, I think this illustrator is so strange that he could have been crazy. But on the other hand, I think that he is really imaginative and original and I’d like to read one of his comics.
