  2. Career at a glance • Architects use software to design structures, landscapes, and other projects • They also do reports based on their work, such as reporting safety measures and financial issues • They communicate with clients as well as contractors

Math connection • Architects use measurements and conversions in planning the dimensions of structures • They must know how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide distances • They must use Pythagorean's theorem to find distances of diagonals • Algebra is used to find weights and measurements for floor plans and furniture • Algebra is also needed in feasibility reports and audits • More math is needed in CADD (computer aided design and drafting) programs they must use

How to become an architect • Finish high school with at least a B average, and take extra math classes • Two options • Enroll in a five-year bachelor of Architecture program • Get a four-year degree in a related field and then get a two year Master of Architecture degree • Intern at architecture firms • Get a position as an interim architect before you graduate • Take the Architect Registration Examination (ARE) to get your license
