  2. The historyofSanta Severina Santa Severina was founded by Enotri, an italic population that lived the zone before the first Greek colonization. The ancient name of the country was Siberene. With the Byzantine’s conquest (that gave to city the actual name), Santa Severina becomes a very important religious center. In fact was Episcopal metropolitan seat, depending directly from Bisanzio.Santa Severina gave born to Pope Zaccaria (pontiff from 741 to 752).

  3. The Byzantine domination lasted until 1073-1074. Around 1075-1076 Roberto ilGuiscardo guided the Normans to the city conquest. Also in Norman time, Santa severina had a considerable importance.The city was governed by Swabian , Anjou and Aragon populations.Today, thanks to his considerable heritage, Santa Severina is one of most interesting Calabrese tourist attractions.

Our idea to improve the Santa Severina’s tourism • The Santa Severina’s borough was one of most important in Italy during Middle Age. • For this reason we decided to get it back to Middle Age , organizing some days with medieval events and attractions. • The medieval days are composite by the following events: • -Medieval joust • - trip on horse • -tour of the castle • - medieval fencing • - Archery • - medieval banquet

  5. Medieval joust • The medieval tournaments or joust are a kind of feast of arms of medieval origin; they born like war games with the intent of exercise the art of war. The main aim was to unseat the opponent on horse with the spear impact, but without hitting the helm. • The spears was made of ash, so they can crush during the impact avoiding the opponent’s armor break. • The joust model that we purpose is different by the classic way.

  6. Partecipantswill wear a fakearmor and on the horsetheywillhaveto pass the spear in the greaternumberofrings, hitting at the end onepuppet, getting a score. • At the end of game whowill the hightest score, willwin.

  7. Trip on the horse • Duringmedievaldays, guideswillbring the tourists on the horses, on routespreviouslyprepared. • Up toreach the entranceof the castle.

  8. Afterwards, the touristswill come accompainedtovisit the castle. • At the end of the visit, theywill taste the variouslocalproducts.

  9. MedievalFancing • The useof the sword, the first weaponinventedwith the aimtokillotherhumans, isveryold. The earliestsourcesthatmention in particulartechniquesresultfrom the Roman period, butitwas in the late Middle Agesthatappear the first sectionwrittenbymasters-at-arms. • For the medievalfencingwillbeorganized a tournament. • Partecipantswill wear the necessarysafety and willfightbetweenthemwithfakeswords. • Wins the battlewhohits the enemy more times. • The winnerof the tournamentwillreceivean award.

  10. Archery • Archeryis a sport ofancientorigin. The bow isoneof the first devices and certainlyoneof the mostoriginalinventionsofhumanity, thathasdeveloped in the variousareasof the planet, in different and indipendenttimes. • In archery, partecipantswillthrowarrowshitting the center of the target. • Accordingtodistancefrom the center willdetermine the points. • Whogets the highest score wins.

  11. MedievalBanquet • In the medievaleveningswillbeorganized in the square "Campo" a medievalbanquet. • Hereyou can taste the typicaldishesof the placewiththoseof the medievalhistoryaccompainedwithmusicsand shows. • At the end of the dinnerwillbegin the ballads.
