Characteristics of the Brothers • They live together with other men that hold the same belief that they should live a life in extraordinary faith and to bring hope to others. • They are always striving to make a difference in the world by being present and available to the people and communities they serve.

  3. Founder of the Order • Fr. Basil Moreau, C.S.C., • The founder of the Congregation of Holy Cross, was born in 1799 in a small village near Le Mans, France. He led a religious life from a young age and this led to him becoming close to the surrounding religious community. This then led to the bishop to ask him to take action in making a community of men to form a religious teaching community, known as the Brothers of the Holy Cross in 1820.

  4. Mission • The mission of the brothers is to bring hope to others, spread faith through their ministry and prayer, and to strive to make a difference in the community they serve. • The hear of their mission is to be educators in the Faith, teaching and supporting the development of the whole person in mind, body, and spirit. T • There missions take place in parishes, social service agencies, and other ministries.

Lifestyles, vows, and rules of the order • Brothers and priests of Holy Cross has spent time to educate people in the faith and bring hope to the world. • They must be committed to a mission of service and they must come to a common life with one another to start upon the ministry in concert with one another • The brothers must be willing to travel to spread the message. They are reminded that the farther we go in giving of ourselves the more we stand to receive.

Brothers of the holy cross • The brothers are participants of several high schools such as the Holy Cross High School in New Orleans, San Antonio, and Chicago. • The also have the holy cross college, Notre Dame Indiana • Most impressive they are international being in District of East Africa, West Africa, and Brazil. • The brothers can be found throughout fifteen countries throughout the world

Process to Join • The first stage in becoming a brother of Holy Cross is a one year formation program, were you reside in the Holy Cross Community and experience the life of prayer and ministry. • They ask you to ask yourself some questions of discernment to see is this your calling: • Do I need more meaning in Life? • Do I have a desire to deepen my faith and my relationship with God?? • Do I want to live with others who believe what I believe? • These are some of the questions asked also there are many more. • With this training and if your heart is truly devoted to God is when you will become a member of the Brothers.

  8. Some Interesting Facts • Brother Andre Bessette , C.S.C. was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI on October 17, 2010. He is the first member of Holy Cross to reach saint hood. • The brother and priests of the order have reached out to educate on religion and life beyond France to Europe, Algeria, Canada, and even Bangladesh. • The seal of the order is two interlocking anchors, a Christian symbol for hope. • The motto in Latin is Ave Crux Spes Unica which literally means only hope.
