  3. Parallel Lines Parallel Lines on the pumpkin are represented by the groves that are on the pumpkin. l m The 2x4s laid next to each other represent man-made parallel lines because they will never intersect. Parallel lines will not cross over each other even if they are extended indefinably.

  4. a Pythagorean Triple c b The natural shape of the rock represents a Pythagorean Triple. The iron poles on the basketball hoop and the ground represent a Pythagorean Triple. Pythagorean Triple, is a set of three natural numbers (a,b,c) for which a²+b²=c².

  5. Fractal Iron design: Man Made Flower: Natural

  6. Chord s t The line that cuts through the truck represents a chord, since the line is going from one of the circle to the other end. The line that cuts through the truck represents a chord, since the line is going from one of the circle to the other end. Chord, is a line segment that joins two points of a circle.

  7. Cube Ice:Natural The clock represents a man made cube. Cube, is a right square prism whose edges are congruent.

  8. Ray The explosion from the man made fireworks represents a ray. Ray, the part of the line that begins at a point and extends infinitely far in one direction. The sun represents the point from which the rays extend infinitely. P Q

  9. Pentagon, a polygon that Has exactly five sides. Pentagon The section on the butterfly's wing represents a natural pentagon. Pentagon, a polygon that has exactly five sides.

  10. Ellipse The knob on the drawer represents an ellipse . The shadow that the brown egg cast on the counter top, illustrates an ellipse. Ellipse, is a conic section, the locus of points in a plane such that the sum of the distances to two fixed points is a constant

  11. Prism Inside of a rock: natural Glass: Man Made Prism, when corresponding vertices of a polygon is joined by a line segment.

  12. Rectangle The television is a man made rectangle, it contains four sides and four right angles. The section of the bark resembles a rectangle in nature. Rectangle, a parallelogram that contains a right angle.

  13. Right Angle The wood on the playground set forms a right angle, it is exactly 90˚. The child’s arm and the branch naturally form a right angle. Right angel, is an angle whose measure is exactly 90˚.

  14. Rhombus Rhombus, a parallelogram with two congruent adjacent sides The section of the toy represents a Rhombus, it is a parallelogram and has two congruent adjacent sides. The rock represents a rhombus because it has two adjacent sides.

  15. Line A B C The edge of the sidewalk represents a line Line, is an infinite set of points. The clouds in the horizon represent a line.

  16. Transversal The two wooden poles in the ground with the metal bar intersecting through them represents a man made transversal. The pine leaves that fell onto the ground intersecting each other represent a natural transversal. Transversal, is a line that intersects two (or more) other lines at distinct point; all of the lines lie in the same plane. 2 1 3 4 5 6 8 7

  17. Quadrilateral Quadrilateral, a polygon that has exactly four sides. Quadrilateral, a polygon that has exactly four sides. Quadrilateral, a polygon that has exactly four sides.

  18. Similar Items These small and large dogs represent natural similar items. Similar items, are items (in this case shapes) that are the same but vary in size. These two bobby pins are the same shape but different sizes, they represent man made similar items.

  19. Cylinder This cucumber represents a natural cylinder. This battery represents a man made cylinder Cylinder, a solid generated by using parallel line segments to join each point of one circle to each point of a second circle that lies in a plane parallel to that of the first circle.

  20. Sphere Sphere, the set of pints in space that are fixed distance from a point (center of the sphere) http://unitmath.com/um/p/Examples/GeometricSolids/sphere.gif The man made tennis ball represents a sphere The orange represents a sphere found in nature

  21. Intersecting Lines Intersecting lines, when two lines have a point in common, The cross represents intersecting lines because the two lines cross in the middle. The two crossing stems represent intersecting lines in nature

  22. The natural growing lines of the ivy represents an angle because the two rays are coming together Angle Angle, the plane figure formed by two rays that share a common endpoint. The seat of the bench and the back rest represent an angle 1

  23. Oval Oval is defined as having the figure of an egg; oblong and curvilinear, with one end broader than the other, or with both ends of about the same breadth; in popular usage, elliptical The man made beads on the necklace represents an oval. The cats eye represents an oval.

  24. Tangent Tangent, a line (or part of a line) that touches a circle at only one point. This knob on a wooden playground with a crack going through the outside edge represents a man made tangent The nut represents the circle that touches the line. The line is represented by the ground.

  25. Line Segment The bench represents a line, the ends of the bench represents the points Line segment, the part of a line determined by two points and all points on the line that lie between those two points. The branch on the ground represents a line. C B

  26. Acute Angle The rays of the sun on the mural represents an acute angle. Acute angle, an angle whose measure is between 0˚ and 90˚ The two branches of the tree are formed into an acute angle 1

  27. Trapezoid Trapezoid, a quadrilateral having exactly two parallel sides. The man made vase represents a trapezoid because it has exactly two parallel sides, the rim and base. The rock represents a trapezoid, the top and bottom edges out represent the parallel sides.

  28. Plane The flat surface of the leaf represents a plan Plane, a two-dimensional figure that has infinite length and infinite width, but no thickness. The campus directory represents a plane .

  29. Triangle The structure of the building represents a triangle because it has three sides The rock that was found represents a natural triangle, because it has exactly three sides Triangle, a polygon that has exactly three sides.

  30. Circle The man made ring represents a circle. Circle, the set of points in a plane that are at a fixed distance from a point the center of the circle) in the plane. The orange slice represents a natural circle.

  31. Congruent Items Each pole on the seesaw is the same, so they can be considered congruent items. The two bushes are congruent items because they can both coincide in shape and size. Congruent items, used to describe figures that can be made to coincide.
