  2. June 28th - Francis Ferdinand assassinated at Sarajevo. August 5th- The Germans captured Warsaw from the Russians. April 6th- USA declares war on Germany August 3rd- Germany declared war on France. April 29th-British forces surrender to Turkish forces . 1914 1915 1916 1917 1918 July 28th -Austria declared war on Serbia. February 21st Start of the Battle of Verdun 29th April -Chemin des Dames Offensive ends losing 250,000 casualties. • January 4th- At 11 am, the Armistice was signed bringing the war to an end. January 19th- The first Zeppelin raid on Britain took place World War I Timeline

  3. 1914 – How It Began Footage of Archduke Franz Ferdinand's arrival at the Town Hall: On June 28th,1914. Archduke Franz Ferdinand, was assassinated in Sarajevo.   4. 1915 – The Great Zeppelin Raid On January 19th, The very first Zeppelin raid took place. 2 Germanzeppelins (L.3 and L.4) dropped bombs into England. 9 people were killed and some buildings were damaged.

  6. The Battle of Verdun The Battle of Verdun started on February 21st, 1916 and ended on December 16th, in 1916.The Battle of Verdun was the LONGEST single battle fought in World War I. Over 700,000soldiers were wounded, dead, or missing during this time.

  7. The Battle of the Somme The Battle of the Somme started on July 1st, 1916 and lasted until November 1916. The French had lost many men during the Battle of Verdun, so, the Commander decided to attack Germany from the north of Verdun in order for the Germans to move their men away from the battlefield thus giving the French Army a break. The Germans nearly 500,000. The British Army suffered 420,000casualties, and the French lost 200,000men. 1,738,000 shells were fired at the Germans
